BACKGROUND: The Forest of Weir, between Hurstlea and Corsham in Sussex, boasts a long history of habitation by a monster. It is said that in the fifth century a saint came to slay a dragon there, but only succeeded in wounding it. Its blood splashed down and beds of saw-toothed reeds sprang up at an alarming speed. After the fight, the saint bound the dragon in the marshes with his prayers. The local adders, being the dragon’s nearest relatives, were also deprived of their stings. To this day it is well known that no one is ever harmed in the part of the forest known as Adder’s Wale. Stories of strange things lurking among the trees linger still, however, and the marsh known as Dragon’s Woe, with its ‘Dragon’s Teeth’ reeds, is best avoided. Since that time, the forest has been protected by Royal Charter, held by the Ward family – the name being corrupted to We’ard – whose titled head, Lord of the Weirs, has the responsibility of keeping it safe from the intrusion of men.

The Forest of Weir, home to the Little Kingdom is on the brink of destruction. With the passing of the King, Myrddin searches for ancient Merlyn’s magic to save the Little Kingdom and bring about the birth of a new king among a barren people...
